Abstrakt

This study seeks to investigate how development in the Bangladeshi
RMG-industry is being influenced by numerous actors, both on a
national and international level. This investigation is conducted
through a social constructivist approach to the topic and by using
qualitative method, which includes interviews with experts operating
in the field and documents that entail descriptions and point of views
articulated by the involved actors. To pursue a proper understanding of
the documents we apply the discourse theory of Laclau and Mouffe, to
enable a theoretical comprehension, that matters for how we interpret
the improvement of development and explain the positions of actors.
This theory is used in order to understand the analytical part, that is
divided in two sections, which first includes an analysis that draws
upon concepts such as nodal points, chains of equivalence and
moments, whereas a second part focuses on an analysis that unveils
hegemonic struggles. The study concludes that there are two different
hegemonic perceptions related to the interpretation of development in
the RMG-industry in Bangladesh, one being economic-oriented, the
other being institutional-oriented.
