Taking Bourdiues concept of field as a starting point and gender as a parameter, this master’s thesis examines a number of Danish girl and women Rock bands, which were active during the periods 1964-70 and 1974-79. By looking at the different bands’ encounters with the emerging field of Rock music, the impact from the Women’s Liberation Movement in the 70’s on the bands’ space of possibilities in the field, is examined. This master’s thesis concludes that the Women’s Liberation Movement, and the awareness on gender that came from this, inspired and made new thoughts and attitudes possible which affected the field of Rock music. The field opened up to the possibility, that women could step up as more active subjects and possess positions with a higher degree of prestige in the field of Rock music, than what was formerly the case. Women’s new and extended scope must however be understood in close relation to the development and establishment of a more autonomous field of Rock music. The new female scope was in other words an effect of the encounter between the Women’s Liberations Movement and a field of Rock music with a higher degree of autonomy.
