Studenteropgave: Semesterprojekt

This report examines the technological enhancements of the body in the fields of bionics. When the human body is the subject of technological improvements, it is necessary to first look at the body as an apparatus to be able to compare the qualities of the natural and the augmented body. The analysis is based upon knowledge gathered from studies regarding the MIT developed BiOM t2 ankle prosthesis, which reveals enhancements for the augmented contra the natural ankle. With this gathered knowledge, the report approaches one way to discuss the ethical implications regarding an implementation in society of such an influential technology. With the many aspects of technology and the impact of such, we seek out to enlighten the issue with a nuanced framework example of a debate. To do this we list a variety of scenarios to exemplify an ethical approach of action/state outcomes. The general opinion of the scientific community is concerned about a lack of interest in their research from the public. Therefore we made a questionnaire regarding the public’s knowledge, opinion, and inclusion in a public debate about bionic technology. The majority of the participants requested a say in a debate concerning the implementation of said technology.
