Abstrakt

This paper examines the question of the tremendous inequality of women and men in the Danish rhythmic music industry in which only about 20 per cent or less are women. This paper is based upon a report from four Danish music organizations: Dansk Artist Forbund, Dansk Musiker Forbund, Danske populære Autorer and Danske Sanskrivere & Komponister. And furthermore numbers from Koda, the Danish collective rights management society. This paper is focusing on why there is such a low amount of women in the Danish rhythmic industry. It states that in every area of the industry the women are outnumbered, except from the universities. One of the reasons women are outnumbered is due to the fact that men through history has been the thinkers and creators of our society and therefore our society is build upon the male gaze. This paper does not wish to solve the gender imbalance but to shed a light on a the given fact that women are underrepresented in the Danish rhythmic music industry.
