The thesis in hand is a case study of car manufacture Volkswagen’s commitment to engage in sustainable practices and the ethical consumer viewpoint on this. In this the environmental organization Greenpeace will represent the ethical consumer, and one of their report on the car industry will be examined to determinate the ethical consumers viewpoint. The theory is comprised of theory on the ethical consumer and corporate sustainability. To uncover Volkswagens commitment to engage in sustainable practices, I will be analyzing the annual sustainability report from the year 2018. What I found in my study, was that Volkswagen is very much engaged in being sustainable, but that Greeenpeace’ high expectations are not met by Volkswagen. Therefore, I conclude that Volkswagen can be considered as being a sustainable organization by the average ethical consumer, but that Greenpeace’ viewpoints are to extreme.
