Den gyldne pensionsalder

Studenteropgave: Basisprojekt

This project examines the thesis which implications can be associated with a higher retirement
age in order to increase the supply of employment in a critical realistic perspective. The
methodology is based on a large survey conducted by Epinion for The Danish Confederation of
Trade Unions (LO). The survey is analysed on the basis of a comprehensive framework developed
to capture the complex causes and mechanisms behind retirement. The analysis concludes that
there are differences between education and whether retirement can be seen as involuntary or
voluntary. The project concludes that particularly unskilled workers are challenged to stay longer
in the labor market, as retirement of unskilled workers is more involuntary than other educational
groups. In conclusion, the project discusses the challenges associated of a higher retirement age for
the welfare state, social cohesion and citizenship. As involuntary retirement from the labor market
results in a loss of citizenship (Friis et al. 2011) and a higher retirement age according to the Ministry
of Finance will lead to more early and involuntary retirement pensioners especially among unskilled
workers, it can be concluded that a higher retirement age does not only challenge the individual but
will also challenge social cohesion and lead to increased inequality in retirement.
