The technological development caused a distinction between time and space, which plays a part in breaking up the traditional work life which is now characterized by flexibility and self-responsibility. Sociologist Richard Sennett argues that new structures of power is created from the companies side, in matter of new control instruments, so the flexibility is no longer liberating to the individual. This project takes base in two employees in two different industries, whose opinion to flexibility is positive. We hereby challenge Sennett and discuss the individuality linked to the term. With base in critical realism we discuss, how our cases diverge from Richard Sennett. It is with critical realism possible to indicate a line of causal relations, which can explain the multiple positions on the term –such as individuality.
