Abstrakt

This project examines the impact of industrialization and globalization through the Danish maritime
history. The impact can be found in the different categories of maritime traffic: trade by ships, ports
and shipyards. It will be analysed how technologies have influenced the maritime Denmark and the
development of geographical landscape. Through what is characterized as fieldwork in the archives,
we access sources of historical nature to understand which technological and organizational
dynamics has an impact on the maritime Denmark. There has been established a cooperation with
the Maritime Museum of Denmark and Statistics Denmark, as well as the use of materials from
several other institutions. Based on theory by David Harvey and Peter Dicken, which treat time and
space in globalization, this project concludes that the development in Danish maritime industry has
a directly impact on the time and space convergence the we know today.
