In the thesis, where Danske Spil is a central case, we study how Ludomaniforeningen, the state and Danske Spil construct or deconstruct a risk associated with the practice of gambling. In the method of analysis of risk construction or deconstruction, we have made use of a text analytical approach, which is characterized by Leif Becker Jensens’ concepts. The thesis’ empirical data is made up by texts from the organizations, interviews with Danske Spil and Ludomaniforeningen plus wording of the Act and an article. The theory included in the thesis, is made up by Mark Suchman and Susanne Holmström to define legitimacy, and Paul Slovic and Stephen Hilgartner is included to describe the construction of risk. The thesis takes a pragmatic view on philosophy of science. The purpose of the analysis of risk construction in the thesis is to be able to assess how risk construction influences the legitimacy of Danske Spil. This leads us to this thesis statement: How do Ludomaniforeningen, the state and Danske Spil construct, or deconstruct, risks associated with the practice of gambling and how does these actors try to influence Danske Spils legitimacy with this risk construction? The result from the analysis shows that Ludomaniforeningen constructs a significant risk associated with the practice of gambling. Through the wording of the Act we have analyzed that the state constructs a risk, but not as comprehensive as the one constructed by Ludomaniforeningen. The analysis of the construction of risk is then related to the legitimacy of Danske Spil, and by this the thesis is able to assess how the construction of risk, by the state and Ludomaniforeningen, can influence the legitimacy of Danske Spil.
