Studenteropgave: Semesterprojekt

The study investigates the diasporic experience of Cubans living in Denmark. Through life story interviews with three Cubans, we have examined how different understandings of living as a Cuban in Denmark is expressed. We depart from Bergs (2011) understanding of the theoretical concept of diasporia in our examination of the phenomenon of Cuban diaspora. We have focused on our interviewees lives in Cuba as well as in Denmark as their premigration experiences and memories of Cuba, is relevant for understanding how they make sense of their current life. In our analysis we focus on their descriptions of belonging, how they differ, and consider the reasons for this. Our investigation show that even though our informants had different experiences of living in Cuba, their meeting with Denmark was similar in many ways. However two out of three informants never really left cuba mentally and wish to go back in the future.
