Abstract This study wishes to examine the reasons behind the election result of the Danish Peoples Party in 2011. This paper takes set in the election of 2011, which was held during an economic crisis that ravaged in most of the Western world. Exactly this economic crisis was the basis of the elections overriding topic: the financial politics. The purpose of this project is to examine what impact the crisis has had on the Danish Peoples Party elections result. This is partly studied through Christoffer Green-Pedersens theory about setting the agenda and furthermore by the election crisis theory of Seymour Martin Lipset, Robert W. Jackman & Karin Volpert and Pia Knigge. These theorists offer different theoretical perspectives in regards to answer what influence an economic crisis has on radi-cal right parties. In collaboration with the above-mentioned theories, this study attempts to provide a double-sided evaluation of why the Danish Peoples Party experienced a decline in votes at the 2011 election and additionally to outline why the decline was relatively small. The project is con-structed firstly of an empirical paragraph including an account of the specific type of party, the Dan-ish Peoples Party is and an account for the economic crisis in 2011, which also explains the political agenda prior to and during the election. The analysis paragraph of the study is substantiated by a document analysis of the Danish Peoples Party respective election advertisements in 2007 and 2011. The discussion will in continuation of the analysis attempt to uncover and elaborate upon which weaknesses the study’s chosen theories can have in answering the stated problem formulation. Last-ly, the study culminates with a conclusion as well as a perspective upon the significance of the lead-er shift in the Danish Peoples Party.
