The aim of this bachelor project is to present the network process behind the creation of Danmarks Rockmuseum (Denmarks museum of Rock). The museums creation is underway, and when it is built in Roskilde in the spring of 2014 it will have been underway for 15 years. The building of the museum will cost 120 mio. DKK and this is not counting the project cost of the planning of the museum. It will be located in the south of Roskilde City in an urban area called Musicon. Along with a long range of different cultural and sports project it is the vision that the museum will be a central piece of the future of the Roskilde Commune. But how did such a large cultural project come to life? How did it land in the provincial city of Roskilde, which only had 53.000 inhabitants in 2000. Who pulled the treads and who nodded confirming at this economic gambling? These are some of the questions that this project will try to answer through its main problem: Why did the museum got placed in Roskilde, and by which process was it succeeded to bring it to the city? The analyses brings forward a large range of documents from the project and combined with 4 interviews it tries to give a firm answer: The museum was placed in Roskilde largely because of the presence of strong cultural actors, like Roskilde Festival, and a mayor backed with a city council believing that the future of Roskilde resides in branding itself on a broad range of cultural happenings and sites throughout the city.
