Unemployment benefits – for those who are employed This paper examines how the reforms of the labour market can be seen as an indication of a general liberalization throughout Danish society. Through analysis of the effect of the welfare reform of 2010, on the Danish Flexicurity-model, we discovered trends towards a more individualized society. This paper utilizes both an economic and sociological approach to analyzing the subject. Through a critical discourse analysis, we have found changes in the discourse practice in two speeches held by previous leader of the opposition and current prime minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt. This can be seen both as a result of a shift in responsibilities, and as an indicator of a more liberal view on national development. The latter is particularly supported by other parts of the analyses. In conclusion the Danish labour market system is undergoing a significant change towards liberalization, particularly due to the doubling of the restraints connected to re-entering the labour market in the 2010 welfare reform.
