In this project I examine why a personal turn towards wage labour can be seen as i personal. I proceed by outlining subjects possible relations to their work which lead to a distinction between an instrumental and impersonal relation towards their work and a subjective and personal relation towards their work. The first is defined as work being a mean to ends that are external from the subejct. The latter is defined as work being an internal subjective end. Based on this distinction I analyze the personal turn towards wage labour using examples of emotional labour and self development on the workplace. I conlude that the personal turn towards wage labour is impersonal, based on the fact that the emotional labour and the self devlopment are tailored and subjected to the needs of the organisation making it an instrument to fullfil the orgi- nazations external and economic goals.
