Studenteropgave: Fagmodulprojekt

This project produces a case study of an online meme, specifically Pepe the Frog meme, that has emerged as a unit of popular visual media culture. The concept of cultural transmission draws attention to the existence of cultural units through which cultures could be understood. The analysis is drawn upon Norman Fairclough’s method of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) of visual media, and investigates the significance of Internet Memes (IM) in the perspectives of Richard Dawkins and his theory of meme as cultural evolution. The analysis includes various images of the aforementioned IM, and a number of other types of IMs as an addition to the analysis of IM and its replication within the participatory medium of Internet. Through a specific case study, this project aims to observe and analyze the great relevance and influence that IMs can have on sociopolitical dynamics, changing processes online and offline.
