This project is concerned with David Blaine’s feat ‘Above the Below’ and the documentary ‘Below the Above’ which was made to portray some of the activity happening at the site of the feat. This project will focus on the coherence between these two entities through the theories of ‘social interaction’ and ‘drama’ by the sociologist Erving Goffman. Camilla Jalving’s theory on participation in and around art will help to unveil how people interact with art or performances and how they position themselves towards them as well. It is concluded that performances like this are helpful in creating awareness on other important issues, which can be illuminated through the audience who chooses to interact and take a stand.
