Studenteropgave: Semesterprojekt

Abstrakt

This project is a study in use of history and remembrance. It seeks to investigate the debater’s positions in relation to the use of history and remembrance, which is shown in the current debate about refugees from The Middle East. A series of articles are being analysed in regards to uncover, how and why, history is being used, in the debate by relevant politicians and historians, with the involvement of certain historian’s reflections regarding this. Through the analysis we assess that historical comparisons to present issues are being produced in order to legitimate certain actions and opinions in political relations. There is a controversy in the opinions about whether or not to make historical comparisons and in regards to which criteria are to be fulfilled in order to gain a legitimate position as a debater. The historians not only spectate the use of history in the debate, but feel a need to involve themselves and discuss the use of history in ethical matters.
