This thesis deals with the meanings users of cannabis attribute their use of cannabis. The cannabis user has in recent years been a topic of discussion in relation to both legislation in the field, but also in relation to consequences for education and health. In discussions as well as research on the subject the starting point is predominantly on abuse or young people’s use. As a counterpart to this I have in this thesis chosen to focus not on abusers, but on users who are older than 27 years. The empiricism of the thesis consists of three qualitative interviews. These form the foundation for the analysis of the attributions of meaning. Also present in the analysis is a discussion on whether the respondents’ use of cannabis can be viewed as health promoting. The critical psychology forms the theoretical framework for this. I found that the respondents attribute their use of cannabis different meanings. On the basis of the respondents’ descriptions of their experiences, i argue, that certain parts their use of cannabis can be considered health promoting in a critical-psychological perspective.
