Citylife in Ørestad This project examines the planning of Ørestad, which is a new district in Copenhagen. It’s based upon a wondering regarding why Ørestad isn’t an attractive district for the main part of the inhabitants in Copenhagen; this problem is answered by a case study of Ørestad. This project analyzes some of the many city spaces in Ørestad including the masterplan using theories by Jan Gehl and Michel de Certeau. These theories are supplemented by two interviews and several observations. The purpose of this project is to give an immediate portrait of Ørestad and furthermore discusses the future of Ørestad’s development. The project concludes that the planning of Ørestad should have had much more focus towards ‘the human scale’ because many of the city spaces in Ørestad don’t fulfill the applied theorists criterions. Finally the contexts between the buildings and the scales have not been prioritized well enough in the master plan.
