The purpose of this paper is to identify and examine the cooperation among the BRICS coun-tries and their behavior on the international stage in organizations, like the UN. This will be achieved through the creation of a timeline which illustrates the development of the partner-ship among the BRICS countries. The timeline will stretch from the first time the BRICS coun-tries were mentioned in the Goldman Sachs report from 2001, till today. An analysis of the BRICS countries’ actions in the UN Security Council will be constructed based on the IR theo-ries; realism and liberalism. The focus of the analysis will be the Syria conflict and how the subject was processed in the UN Security Council. Robert Keohane will be used as an advo-cate of liberalism and John Mearsheimer will be used as an advocate of realism. Based on the analysis, a discussion on how the BRICS countries’ partnership is expressed in the UN Secu-rity Council will be made. With the discussion as foundation, the BRICS countries behavior will be evaluated in comparison to the IR theories.
