This project concerns the discursive trends related to the criticism of over-sharing and thus the lack of privacy on Facebook. Phenomena such as mediatization and remediation are used to show the context of contemporary perception and use of Facebook and thus the criticisms pivotal to the debate. This leads to an examination of themes such as media-specific panics, perceptions of online and offline activities, and youth as a social construct. Using a questionnaire survey conducted on Facebook a series of dichotomies are displayed which shows evidence that the critical discourse about privacy on Facebook is influenced by media-specific panics, as we have seen in the shaping of the new media in history.
