This thesis investigates the affective capacities of city lighting at Blågårdsgade and Blågårds Plads. City lighting has the ability to be both functional and sensorial. It contains a number of sensorial qualities that makes us recognize how the world is organized, coordinated and furthermore idealized. These sensorial qualities of light are fundamental for the purposes that city light accounts for. Cultural values are expressed by the function of the light and how the people choose to interact with, or without it. Through autoethnographic participation, I investigate the city light’s sensorial effects and its impact on the sociality at Blågårdsgade and Blågårds Plads. At Blågårdsgade and Blågårds Plads the intention of the light is so to create visibility, however the means in which the intention is executed, effects the senses differently and thus the sociality.
