The concern of this project states the conditions that are necessary in order to obtain a sustainable development in Greenland. The approach of the project is multidisciplinary and forwards the questions: what is the definition of the concept sustainability and what impact does tourism have on the socio-cultural, economic and environmentally elements when discussing sustainability. The tourism in Greenland has developed quite rapidly over the last decade. Greenland wishes to increase the amount of tourism in a year. A strategy has been developed for the development of tourism, which will stand until next year, where the previous will be revised and updated. One of the goals in the strategy is to have a sustainable tourism development. However, it seems to be short of guidelines that defines the meaning of this concept. It has not been conceptualised, which not only proves to be a planning problem, especially for those who need to act upon the strategy, but also for the validity of the report. The report therefore, is not only lacking clear guidelines of how to execute a way to develop a sustainable tourism, but also the strategy seems to be concentrating on the income that will be created on the ever growing tourism industry.
