Abstract This project deals with a possible coherence between the idea about rationality and autonomy. Among other things this is based on a Ulysses Contract, a treatment for mentally ill. The project involves a theoretical review of the idea of autonomy and the principle of respecting the autonomy competence of individuals. To get an insight in the idea of rationality, we use the philosophers, John R. Searle and Michael E. Bratman as our primary theorists. These will be used to obtain an understanding of the actions of rationality. In this examine we have an analysis of an imaginary case which is used as an example of how to use our primary theories and how a Ulysses Contract can function in practice.
