This study contains an analysis and discussion of the issues connected to the use of history that is used to relativize Holocaust, based on the artist Franco Berardi’s performance Auschwitz on the Beach. The analysis of the debate revealed a moral issue connected to relativizing the terrors of Holocaust. Furthermore, the debate showed a disagreement surrounded the character of this particular issue and that moral use of history of Holocaust was allowable and was in accordance with the function of the field of history.
Based on a comparison and discussion of earlier debates – among others, the Historian’s Debate in 1986 and the Holocaust Industry in 2000 – we found, that moral use of history is a highly important factor in the debates concerning relativizing Holocaust alongside ideological use of history, non-use of history and political-pedagogical use of history.
Finally, we concluded that there in the debates is a connection between the use of history of Holocaust and its purpose as connected with four aspects of the modern society, that eventually can lead to fatal consequences for the future.
