Studenteropgave: Semesterprojekt

This project aims to investigate how urban agriculture is related to sustainable development. Secondly, we will investigate how an urban garden could facilitate empowerment in Urbanplanen, a socially deprived housing area. By investigating research done about urban agriculture from USA and Canada, where urban gardens have existed for many years, it seeks to get a more general overview of the phenomenon urban agriculture. Our findings and understandings of Urban Agriculture are then linked to a Danish context where the findings are based on interviews with key persons from two urban gardens, as well as the historical context of urban gardening in Denmark. All these findings are then related to an investigation of Urbanplanen which is composed of partly observations and partly qualitative interviews. The project seeks to analyze how the investigated instances of urban gardens relate to empowerment, and if any of the data from Urbanplanen suggests that an urban garden would be a useful tool to improve the area.
