Studenteropgave: Semesterprojekt

This project deals with the concept of altruism, as it is applied in the field of psychology. The aim of this project is to establish whether children have a natural altruistic tendency, and whether that tendency is suppressed by socialization practices in families and preschools. The theoretical framework for the discussion concerning the origin of altruism is based on four authors: Jean Piaget, Nancy Eisenberg, Felix Warneken and Michael Tomasello. These authors also provide theories regarding children’s cognitive abilities and the development of altruistic behaviour. Furthermore, this project describes socialization practices, influencing children’s altruistic and prosocial behaviour, in order to establish whether certain practices suppress such behaviour.
