This project examines the newly born Danish party The Alternative, and its possibilities for electoral success in the coming election. To determine this we investigate all new Danish political parties founded 1980-2014 who participated in elections to decide which factors are likely to have an influence on a new party’s success in the electoral arena. The project applies methods associated with both the larger N-study and the case study, and the theoretical framework consists predominantly of issue-voting theory and Christoffer Green-Pedersen’s theory about the political agenda and its impact on the electorates. The conclusion is that The Alternative has very limited possibilities for success due to lack of beneficial characteristics inside the party’s organization and due to the party’s political focal points which is not of an important enough character for the Danish electorates.
