The purpose of this paper is to address the field of sound and place and their intertwining. In collaboration with the academic conference Fluid Sounds, the project group set out to design an aural account of the Island of Amager. The sound production will serve as an introduction to Amager to the participants at Fluid Sounds. This paper is an examination of the theoretical field concerning the site-specific sound; of the embodied listening, sensing and experiencing; and of how to bring this knowledge together in an informative and aesthetic audio production. The theoretical work is set out from R. Murray Schafers notion of Soundscapes. His idea that the sounds of an environment can be composed, is examined through the thoughts of PhD Jakob Kreutzfeld, Professors Rick Altman, Berry Blesser and Linda-Ruth Salter. This examination provides an understanding of the merging of sound and place. A phenomenological approach is adopted to understand the embodied experiences of these theoretical ideas. As part of the methodological approach to the project we set out to explore and record the sonic environments of Amager with inspiration from Pauline Olivieros and Rikke Thiirmann Thomsen. The recordings were then reassembled, rearranged and manipulated into an aural montage, that meets the requirements of the project group, the conference contacts and the recorded environments. This was done with the help of theoretical reflections on radio aesthetics by professor Ib Poulsen and associated professors Hanne Bruun og Kirsten Frandsen. The ending pages of the paper reflects on the process, the outcome of the production, and conclude that; to be able to design a site specific aural production, one needs to engage with, listen, sense and experience the complexity of the sonic environment. A deep understanding of the soundscape characteristics is necessary, when designing aural site specificity.
