Studenteropgave: Semesterprojekt

This project looks at the music philosophy of Theodor Adorno in a modern context. Jean-Francois Lyotard is used as a partner for discussion in order to help update the thoughts of Adorno. The main text used is Philosophy Of Modern Music (1948) by Adorno. The book is concerned with the compositions of Schönberg and Stravinsky. The sociological-philosophical music analyses are discussed and compared with the thoughts on art by Lyotard, as they are shown in two essays. Main focuses are the sublime and the time aspect. Main levels are society and music/art. The conclusions of the discussion are then used on a case of temporary popular rock music, represented by the band Radiohead. Kant and Nietzsche are also used for the sake of an explanation the concepts of the sublime and the pair dionysiac/apollonic.
