A Study of YouTube, DIY Musicians and Entrepreneurship

This study explores the possible relations between the use of YouTube and DIY musicians' entrepreneurial processes. The research conducted is based on qualitative data gained through participant observation and field recordings. The analysis of the findings suggest that entrepreneurial processes related to information asymmetry, supply and demand, productivity enhancement and instrumental evaluation can be associated to the studied DIY musicians' use of YouTube. The study also indicates that some of the studied DIY musicians might also be approaching YouTube as a source of motivation, inspiration, learning, aspiration and a means of distribution. Furthermore, the study suggests possible relations between some of the values of the studied DIY musicians and the incorporation of visual elements in their productions.
