Studenteropgave: Semesterprojekt

Abstrakt

This methodological project has the aim to apply a Critical Realist approach to an empirical research, in order to see whether it is possible to achieve new insight into the reality of the international students currently living in Copenhagen.
After researches in the field we came to the conclusion that there exists a presupposed ontology created by the government and other academics, for this reason, through an ontological re-consideration of the phenomenon of the international students, the paper aims to shed light on their social integration in the hosting country.
In order to find causes and mechanisms lying behind the phenomenon in exam we compare several ontological preconceptions of the international students, with their direct experiences we gathered through empirically data collection. The abstraction of the phenomenon under investigation is made by the use of the Bourdie’s theory of capital and Axel Honneth’s theory of recognition.
At the same time Critical Realism is tested for its ability to create additional knowledge and understandings about the social realities of the international students in Denmark.
