Our interest in this project is based on a current challenge regarding the housing crisis among students in Copenhagen, Denmark. The project addresses involvement of citizens in planning of urban space and is processed from a phenomenological perspective. In our project we have examined how we can design an art installation that generates reflection and opinions in reference to a container city as a type of accommodation for students, and furthermore how our knowledge from this experience can contribute in an implementation of a container city for students. We did this on the basis of observations from our installation. We analysed our empirical data with The Situationists conceptual framework in relation to urban space, Henri Levebre’s Spacial Triad and Christian Jantzen et al.’s notions on experiences. We have concluded that we with our installation inspired reflection and opinions among visitors by creating a varied, sensuous and relevant environment, encouraging curiosity, co-creation and creativity. These points should be included in an implementation of a container city for students.
