Abstract

Collaboration in teams in elementary schools has gained increasing attention among researchers and practi- tioners, and over the last 25 years, teams have become the dominant organizational form for professional collaboration in Danish elementary schools (Nielsen, 2012; Wiedemann, 2005). For the last 70+ years, work- ing life researchers have pointed out how team-collaboration bears potential to strengthen and develop the quality of work, in both a task-oriented and a working environment perspective (Emery & Thorsrud, 1976; Hvid & Møller, 1999; Trist & Bamforth, 1951). In the same vein, contemporary researchers from the teaching field stress how collaboration among teachers – e.g. in teams – may support the quality of teaching and student learning, and facilitate development and maintenance of professional capital (a combination of hu- man, social and decisional capital - see further definition below) among team members (Hargreaves & Fullan, 2012).1
