Abstract

This chapter takes its point of reference in the collectivity of everyday life and self-understanding of families. Children’s lives in a variety of institutions represent new tasks for their parents, who seem to develop their personal conduct in relation to these multifaceted tasks together with other persons. The chapter draws on research projects exploring children’s everyday lives across a variation of contexts through participatory observations and interviews. It focuses on parents’ perspectives on their children’s lives across family, day care and family relief in addition to children’s lives in relation to settling in to school.
