Abstract
Video and sound piece in three parts, 43 mins. Exhibited at the Allmänningen exhibition at the Form/Design Center, Malmö, 16 February to 2 June 2024. Listen with headphones.
How do our commons and pathways sound? What is the significance of sound for how such spaces are experienced and used, whether that is for seeking refuge from urbanity or undertaking its routines?
Scenes from a soundscape follows Barmhärtigheten väg, a section of the pilgrimage route (Birgittavägen) that stretches from Johanneskyrkan in Malmö to the Cathedral in Lund.
When we walk this way, we stop. We observe and listen. We hear details. Birds chirping, snow melting, wind in the foliage. But also, the noise of the urbanity from which we may be trying to escape.
What can be learned from these sounds and sights? How have they changed over the centuries? What can they tell us about the current state and conflicts of our commons?
