AndetWhen discussing the past, present and future of the university, the focus is often on institutional functions and roles, on broad educational philosophies and theories or on organizational structures and policy contexts. This conference takes a different approach. The point of departure are the study practices that define university life of both students and professors: academic writing, reading seminars, lectures, laboratory work, workshops, excursions, academic research, ….. Practices of study have their own history. This conference wants to create an occasion to think about their present state and their future modalities.<br/><br/>The conference has a double objective: the first objective is to come to an understanding of how different kinds of power lay claim today on space, time, (subject)matter, on minds and bodies in study practices.<br/><br/> How are these practices today being claimed by external social, economic, cultural, political or other forms of powers?<br/><br/>Departing from these claims, the second objective is to arrive at a re-claiming of study practices.<br/><br/> Are there practices worth protecting, defending or re-inventing?<br/><br/> How to (re-)organize them in the future?<br/><br/> Are there new, alternative study practices today?<br/><br/> What are the educational philosophies and theories enacted through these new or alternative practices?<br/><br/> What is it that should be re-claimed and how exactly could this be done?<br/>
