Abstract

Palestine in the World highlights the central role of international solidarity to the Palestinian liberation movement of the 1960s and ‘70s. Bringing together scholars with expertise in different regions, languages, and disciplines, the book covers examples of solidarity with Palestine from Cuba, the US, France, Japan, Kuwait, Israel, and many other places in between. The chapters show how the Palestinian cause was supported by a diverse range of activists, liberation movements and revolutionary states, and how Palestinians in turn inspired anticolonial struggle and transformations elsewhere. By looking to how solidarity was expressed in the practices of cultural production, popular mobilisations and travelling revolutionaries across continents, the book adds new depth to our understanding of the role of solidarity in the rise of the Palestinian movement to global prominence. In doing so, Palestine in the World reflects on the archives and afterlives of solidarity today, and the lessons to be learned from the Palestinian revolution of the 1960s and ‘70s.
