Abstract

This document analyzes the operation of an online didactic task (based on the use of the Internet) intended for inservice teachers enrolled in a distance education program for a master’s degree in the teaching of mathematics. The didactic task requires that the teachers engage collaboratively in a collective documentary work on a virtual platform, but does not ask them to implement it in class. The structure and analyses of the task are based on the application of the concept of documentary orchestration, which is an amalgam of the concepts of instrumental orchestration (Trouche, 2004 ; Trouche, 2005a) and documentary genesis (Gueudet & Trouche, 2009). The results show that the concept of documentary orchestration is a useful tool to guide the improvement and reorganization of the task as initially proposed. It is also argued that the scenarios of online formation allow the teachers’ ideas and actions to acquire a public and tangible character, thus becoming new resources for teachers’ collective documentary work.
