Abstract
In this book we find a stimulating discussion of the problem of human dignity from the perspective of phenomenological hermeneutics, inspired by Edith Stein’s philosophy combined with a historical analysis of how the concept of human dignity developed. It is one of the most important systematic presentations of the concept of dignity that I know of and the book is a must read for scholars of ethics, metaphysics and philosophical anthropology. Mette Lebech defines the topic of the book in this way: “Thus, human dignity is investigated in three modes: a term appearing in historical texts, as a reality independent.
