Familierådgivning: En social intervention i familiers hverdagsliv

Abstract

Based on the thesis’ problem formulation: What understanding of problems and change underlies family counselling according to the Service Act (Serviceloven) §11.3, and what significance do children and parents experience it has for problems in everyday life? this thesis examines how family counselling as an intervention becomes a part of the family's everyday life and how it affects other parts of the family's everyday life. The thesis' analytical points are based on an empirical study based on observations and interviews of six families who are affiliated with Familiehuset. In summary, it is concluded that the understanding of problems and change that underlies family counselling is based on an understanding of families' problems that does not take into account the complex reality of everyday life. This can be seen as an expression of the fact that family
counselling is a preventive effort, and of a political desire for a targeted and measurable effort. Furthermore, it is concluded that the family counselling’s understanding of problems and change has the significance that
children and parents experience a lack of connection between the family counselling’s inward-looking efforts and the many different problems that arise in relation to the family's everyday life externally. In addition, both children and parents experience that the responsibility for solving the problems is placed with the parents, who are made the target group for the efforts provided by the family counselling, while the children are only sporadically involved and the other parties are left out. The thesis is rounded off with a discussion
of how knowledge about families' everyday lives can contribute to and qualify the social intervention that family counselling constitutes.
