Abstract
Advances in digital technologies (e.g., AI, Big Data, digital devices) have transformed our world in impressive ways; however, they have also exacerbated social inequalities, disrupted elections, contributed to environmental destruction, undermined due process and economic freedom, and been deployed in the erosion of democracies. Theoretical psychology can help address such social issues by exploring the psychological dimensions of these advances. For example, critical and/or theoretical psychological explorations of how digital technologies are shaping subjectivities and embodiment, the conduct of psychological research, and social relations across many domains is not only warranted, but urgently needed. Theoretical psychologists can also examine how people are participating in the democratic shaping of digital change. Roundtable discussion, together with Alexis Fabricius, Jeffery Yen, Martin Dege, and Kieran O’Doherty.
