Abstract
Based on a joint European project, COGITOi, concerning e-commerce, the objective of our research was to establish a set of evaluation criteria and investigate user acceptance of intelligent agents, supporting the user navigation on the web-site, and whether the human-computer interaction may be
improved by an expressive visualisation of the virtual agent. We have used the Cognitive Systems Engineering means-ends analysis tool for creating the criteria in the form of a set of user requirements. We have used interview sessions followed by a focus group. for collecting data. In this paper we present a series of strategical evaluation criteria, a set of problems related to the use of existing web-agents and the results from a word association test on agent appearance
