Abstract

In this paper, classic and recent management and leadership theories are understood by a Luhmannian lens, as contingent ways to deal with the fundamental paradox of the undecidability of decisions. A Luhmannian approach contributes to better understand the function of leadership and management as strategies for deparadoxicating decision-making.
Dealing with the appearance of turbo-autopoiesis with more and more function systems gaining importance, organizations as multifunctional decision machines need to create sensibility and flexibility towards the multicontextuality and create highly paradoxical deparadoxication strategies. This paper identifies such strategies and discuss if we need a Great Reset of management and leadership theory.
