Abstract
In most urban settings, the multiplicity of human voices in a constant state of acoustic irradiation is overwhelming. They define territories, in conversation, in public transportation, in the, sometimes awkward, transitions between private and public spaces. They resonate identity, they are biographical sound happenings and they turn every listener into a bearer of this shared individuality. In the context of my interdisciplinary PhD research on voice as acoustic presence, inquired through the scopes of phenomenology of sound, and artistic research in the realms of documentary and sound art, this paper aims to discuss the voice as a modulator of acoustic territories in both its transgressive and communal potential.
