Abstract
This paper is based on data about animation film production by 18-year-old students in a Danish
upper secondary school. The optic is the on-going potential for learning and development of
reflection. The purpose is to clarify what might support young people's reflection on media. I propose
an analytic working model called Animated Symbols concerning critical reflection in a dialogic learning
process. The model shows dialogue as interactions that involve two types of transformation: inner
‘learning processes' and outer signs and symbols. The classroom-based research study is part of a
PhD project. The implications and the research design are discussed.
