Abstract
In Scandinavia, "participatory design," which involves varied stakeholders such as governments, companies, citizens, and others in solving problems, has been practiced in the information systems and technology field since the 1970s.
In recent years, "living labs" have become popular as a method and space for participatory open innovation aimed at solving societal problems. And in Japan too, the number of companies, local governments and citizens taking part in them is on the rise. In this paper, I will feature Komatsu Living Lab as a case (Komatsu City, Ishikawa Prefecture), and discuss theory and practice of living labs in Japan.
