FogCueEs Device (CÚRAM): Wearable electrical stimulation device for real-time gait guidance in Parkinson's Disease

  • University of Galway

Projekter: ProjektForskning

Projektdetaljer

Beskrivelse

A competitively awarded research initiative funded under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) COFUND scheme. The project focuses on developing a specialized wearable biomedical interface designed to mitigate gait instability and Freezing of Gait (FoG) events in Parkinson's disease through smart sensing and real-time physical actuation

Nøgleresultater

Directed the end-to-end research strategy and intellectual property (IP) planning for a functional, market-ready assistive device. The system applies real-time closed-loop electrical stimulation to stabilize gait architecture, successfully driving lab-validated engineering concepts into a deployable medical system tailored for high-need patient populations.

Lægmandssprog

This project focuses on building a smart, wearable medical device to help individuals suffering from Parkinson's disease manage walking difficulties and avoid dangerous "freezing" episodes. By tracking walking patterns in real-time, the device delivers gentle electrical impulses that act as a rhythmic cue to guide steady movement, preventing falls and boosting independent mobility.
