Background

I am a tourism researcher with a strong interdisciplinary foundation that integrates sustainability, social transformation, and environmental responsibility with applied expertise in service innovation, experience economy, and strategic consumer research. My work explores how tourism enterprises and destination managers design and mediate consumer experiences, foster trust, and contribute to sustainability through strategic and affective engagement.

The research questions that drive my work

My research explores questions on how tourism as a strategic and affective domain shapes consumer experiences, builds trust through sustainability and regenerative framing, and activates place-based resources through social and experiential innovation. Influenced by practice-theory, performativity, and critical approaches, I study tourism from both micro and macro perspectives to understand its impacts, tensions, and managerial challenges in specific contexts, spanning both urban and coastal. I approach tourism as a platform for social value creation, ethical engagement, and experiential transformation, with a transversal focus on sustainability and community impact. My goal is to produce knowledge that advances interdisciplinary scholarship while contributing to societal change.

I am particularly motivated by questions of transformation and coordination among diverse actors in tourism and related sectors. My research asks: How do tourism enterprises and communities cooperate to manage shared resources and respond to new tourism consumption trends? Under what conditions do place-based collaborations and tourism clusters emerge, and how do they adapt to stress through regenerative strategies, ethical branding, or experiential innovation? What drives collective action in tourism, and how is trust negotiated across scales and sectors? These questions guide my inquiry into how tourism can foster or hinder sustainable transformations for consumers and practitioners.

My methods

My research is theoretically grounded, empirically informed, and oriented toward real-world relevance. I work primarily with qualitative methodologies, including ethnographic fieldwork, semi-structured interviews, participant observation, and discourse analysis. These approaches allow me to explore the situated, relational, and affective dimensions of tourism experiences and organizational practices.

My fieldwork experience is in both urban and coastal environments, engaging with tourism enterprises, residents, and destination managers to understand how tourism is experienced, negotiated, and mediated in context. My research design is shaped by practice theory, performativity, and critical consumer research, which guide my inquiry into how meaning, value, and responsibility are constructed through everyday interactions and strategic framing.

I also work with collaborative and participatory methods, especially in projects involving community stakeholders, SMEs, and public institutions. These engagements help me capture the dynamics of cooperation, trust-building, and innovation across scales. In addition, I have experience assembling and analysing qualitative datasets, including interview transcripts, field notes, and digital media, and I am increasingly interested in integrating digital ethnography and platform analysis into my future work.

My methodological approach is flexible, reflexive, and interdisciplinary, which is designed to capture the complexity of tourism as a socio-environmental and experiential phenomenon, while contributing to both academic knowledge and societal impact.
