I am an Associate Professor at Roskilde University – which is a part-time position I pursue with much passion alongside my job as a Partner at McKinsey & Company. All my work is motivated by sketching and helping to implement pathways towards sustainability – which, to me, includes social sustainability as much as economic prosperity and environmental quality. I am convinced the private sector is key in reaching any sustainability goals.

I am particularly interested in the concept of the circular economy as a means to achieve sustainability. My research on the circular economy has focused on fundamental aspects, including the definition of the circular economy and its emergence as a research field. Additionally, I have explored circular start-ups and the dynamic capabilities necessary to drive the implementation of circular economy business models. Furthermore, I am intrigued by the role of public policies in expediting the transition towards a circular economy.

I have published >40 peer-reviewed papers in journals such as Ecological Economics, Journal of Industrial Ecology, Global Environmental Change, Journal of Cleaner Production and Resources, Conservation and Recycling, and Stanford’s University database of most cited scientists has continuously counted me among the top 2% most cited scientists worldwide. My work has also been featured in media outlets such as The Guardian, Bloomberg BNA and the BBC.

Much research is too disconnected from practice, and we must do things very differently in the academy for this to change. I am excited that this is also a core belief Roskilde University was founded upon. I have authored, inter alia, the book The Lean PhD: Radically Improve the Efficiency, Quality and Impact of Your Research which outlines how start-up working principles can improve academic work, and I am also the author of Prof, No One Is Reading You which has upset many.
